We had our mini-Airfix Car Competition with our monthly gathering on Saturday 19th April 2025. We also celebrated Eid Mubarak (Hari Raya) and Easter with lots of chocolate eggs and drinks.
This competition started off as a contest between Andrew Rozario who bought the Airfix 1:43 Aston Martin DB5 starter kit and Paul Gallagher who bought the Airfix 1:43 Jaguar E-Type. I asked why not open to all modellers for our gathering on 19th April 20225, and so this ‘mini-Airfix car competition 2025’ started. Many modellers came to buy the Airfix 1:43 car starter kits or search in their collection for Airfix car model kits.
I asked Mat Irvine and Tony James to be the judge, and created an event page on Facebook for people to post their build progress.
When Paul Tattersall from England heard about, as defending champion, he started the Airfix 1:43 Land Rover Series 1 pick up starter kit and looked at his Airfix car model collection.
Even though there was only a month’s notice to build the models, there was quite a lot of interest and competition. Yee Soon Tuck decided to join with his Airfix 1:32 Mini Cooper S, and Razali Ahmad with his Airfix 1:32 Aston Martin DBR model kit.
Here are the entries:
Jake Moon, Henry Low and Paul Gallagher each with their Airfix 1:43 Jaguar E-type
Andrew Rozario and Lester Poh each with their Airfix 1:43 Aston Martin DB5
Lester Poh with his yellow Airfix 1:43 Land Rover series 1 pick up
Kevin Khoo with his motorised Airfix 1:12 Bentley Blower 4.5 litre car
Yee Soon Tuck with his yellow Airfix 1:32 Mini Cooper S
Razali Ahmed with his Airfix 1:32 Aston Martin DBR9 modified into a Tesla prototype.
Paul Tattersall - his photo entry on our Facebook with an Airfix 1:32 Porsche 911 in Gulf colours (and he could not finish Airfix 1:43 Land Rover Series 1 pick up)
Peter Chiang’s display entry with an Airfix 1:32 Jaguar 420.
In total, we had 11 entries.
At 5pm, we did the judging and concluded that
- Yee Soon Tuck’s Airfix Mini Cooper S was perfect in assembly and painting, and we awarded him first prize.
- Andrew Rozario’s 1:43 Aston Martin DB5 has wire spokes wheels hubs, brake disks, and modified lights and front mirror on bonnet. We awarded him the second prize.
Congratulations to all who participated.
All the Easter and Eid Mubarak festival atmosphere, the gathering last until almost closing time at 8pm (having started at 1:15pm).
Hobby Bounties’s shop has been re-organised, on visit.
Our fellow group member, Mat Irvine, released his ‘Model Diorama Handbook’ which we stock.
Airfix has released their new tooled ‘Airfix 1:48 Sepecat Jaguar GR.1 / GR.1A’ which have in stock.
We hope that you can join us at our next gathering on Saturday 17th May 2025 from 2 - 5pm.
